Media release
The federal leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, says he is disappointed the media coverage of the Australia Fund is purposefully misleading Australians.
Mr Palmer said the purpose of the Australia Fund is to provide quicker and more effective natural disaster relief to all Australians who suffer at the hands of drought, bush fires, cyclones and floods.
“The Australian media has failed to report this,” he said.
“They have failed to refer to my speech in the House of Representatives where I introduced the Australia Fund Bill.
“The media is doing a disservice in suggesting the Australia Fund has anything to with me personally or my business interests.”
Mr Palmer said the media has misled the community to believe he will profit from attempting to help Australians at the hand of natural disasters.
“I have clearly stated, on the record, that at no time now, or in the future will I seek any support for any business I own or operate from the Australia Fund,” he said.
“It is not why I have introduced the Australia Fund. This fund is about helping Australians at a time of natural disasters.
“It is disappointing to see News Limited twisting my words and blatantly failing to report the news and instead pushing the views of their biased American owner.”
