The federal leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, says he’s astonished and disappointed by the behaviour of the Member for Fisher Mal Brough in the James Ashby saga.
Mr Palmer said the admissions by Mr Brough on 60 Minutes that he asked Mr Ashby to procure copies of former Member for Fisher and federal Parliamentary Speaker Peter Slipper’s diary were concerning.
“I’m astonished and disappointed that Mr Brough has asked James Ashby to obtain that material and use it for political purposes,” Mr Palmer said.
“Mr Brough told 60 Minutes he was doing it for the sake of the electors of Fisher whom he now represents because he believed Mr Slipper may have been committing a crime.
“But was Mal Brough just being a naughty boy? Was his directive to Mr Ashby an offence that requires a police investigation?
“The people of Fisher who are in the neighbouring electorate to my seat of Fairfax on the Sunshine Coast deserve some answers.”
