Federal leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax Clive Palmer says the Prime Minister is speaking with a forked tongue when he defends Adani after the court’s rulings over the companies proposed coal mine for the Galilee Basin.
Mr Palmer said Adani has only 12 employees and no funding in place or offtake contracts.
“Adani’s project will never get off the ground and the Prime Minister’s comments are based on false promises by the company,” Mr Palmer said.
“Former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman only decided to back Adani, a foreign company over Australian companies, because of the support Adani offered his LNP government.
“Adani was not able to raise funds to take its Carmichael coal mine project forward and has cost Queensland 60,000 jobs and billions of dollars in royalty income streams.”
Mr Palmer said his company, Waratah Coal, has the biggest resources in the Galilee Basin.
“Under the Bligh Government Waratah Coal’s proposed ‘China First’ project had full support, including the project’s proposed infrastructure, the Abbott Point terminal,” he said.
“Waratah Coal’s ‘China First’ project had $10 billion in funding available by a leading global financial services group; establishing the mine and associated infrastructure would have created jobs during construction as well as jobs during operation and a massive boost to the state and national economies.
“Now, with record low coal prices, feasibilities means mines such as Adani’s Carmichael coal mine will not happen in the economy’s current state.”
