Leader of the Palmer United Party and federal Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, has congratulated Queensland’s Opposition Leader, Lawrence Springborg, for his support of the Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV).
Mr Palmer said it was thanks to the Palmer United Party’s negotiations with the federal government and Minister for Immigration, Honourable Scott Morrison, that the SHEV was introduced to Parliament.
“It is great to see Queensland Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg supporting the introduction of SHEV’s in Queensland,” Mr Palmer said.
The SHEV encourages enterprise through earning and learning while also strengthening regional Australia. The visa would be valid for five years and allows the visa holder to be located in a region identified through a national nomination process.
Mr Palmer said if Queensland did sign up to take part in SHEV it would be a win for not only refugees but also the state.
“It would be a win for refugees who now have a safe haven visa and can protect themselves and work towards establishing themselves in Queensland’s regional community.
“And it would be a win for regional Queensland, which would benefit from the additional work resources in communities where there is a labour shortage, thereby increasing the viability of regional Queensland.”
