Live exports a concern for Fairfax constituents

Federal Member for Fairfax

Media release

The electoral office of Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer MP, is receiving a large number of enquiries on the issue of live cattle and sheep exports.

Mr Palmer said the government must provide parliament with frequent updates on measures being implemented or proposed on livestock exports so the public can be assured it has the very latest information.

“I am calling on the government and the Australian Livestock Exporters Corporation Ltd (LiveCorp) to work more closely with the industry to ensure that all livestock are not subjected to cruelty,” Mr Palmer said.

“Like many others, I have been disturbed by recent evidence of apparent cruelty to Australian livestock. This serious issue has been raised by a number of my constituents.

“It is essential that both the Prime Minister and the Minister for Agriculture keep Australians informed with the specifics of their actions on this very emotive matter.

“We must know what they and the industry are doing along the entire supply chain to eliminate cruelty to live exported animals.

“It is high time the government showed leadership on this issue,” Mr Palmer said.
