Australians should stop buying The Australian and The Courier Mail newspapers due to their blatant political bias, according to Palmer United Party federal leader and Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer.
Mr Palmer said The Courier Mail had been giving Queensland Premier Campbell Newman an easy ride since sacking the newspaper’s editor and editorial director earlier this year.
“Campbell Newman had a tougher time under the previous regime at the Courier Mail but they sacked those editors and brought in a replacement from interstate,” Mr Palmer said.
“We are advised that Mr Newman was briefed about the changes before they were announced.
“The Courier Mail has been far more kind to Mr Newman since those editorial management changes and also strongly backed Tony Abbott and campaigned against Kevin Rudd in the federal election.”
Mr Palmer said he had been under sustained attack from The Australian newspaper since launching the Palmer United Party.
“The Australian is just exposing itself as a propaganda lapdog for Mr Murdoch,” Mr Palmer said.
“They also campaigned for Tony Abbott and denigrated Kevin Rudd.
“One particular journalist, Hedley Thomas, has written tens of thousands of words about me over the past six months and has gone over the top with his attacks.
“But it didn’t stop the Palmer United Party from securing the balance of power in the Senate from next July and myself from winning the lower house Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax.”
