Clive Palmer’s Fairfax electoral office in Maroochydore has been inundated with letters of appreciation following Mr Palmer’s generous distribution of his parliamentary salary to local charities and community organisations.

Recipients not only expressed their thanks, but in many cases also outlined what the funds would be used for.

Extracts include:

“This donation will assist us to continue our support of the library. We hope, like you, that your donations to local organisations will encourage other politicians to stop making empty promises and support their electorate.” Yvonne James, Secretary, Friends of Kenilworth Library.

“We are so grateful to have contact with people like you who enable us to make a difference in people’s lives. Ultimately, your gift enables us to help youth find hope in the midst of what is often a tough time in life.” Jesse O’Neil, Team Leader, Fusion Australia.

“Financial help such as this assists in keeping the cost of meals down for our clients and allows us to maintain a safe and efficient environment for our volunteer workers. Our service can only thrive with support from all those involved in the local community.” Anne Jericho, Secretary, Coolum Beach Meals on Wheels Inc.

“On behalf of our local staff I would like to thank you for your generous donation which will be used to assist vulnerable women and children using our Sunshine Coast services. Our funding doesn’t always allow for the extra support women often need at times of great stress in their lives.” Christine Hodge, Director, Centacare

Mr Palmer said he was moved by the heartfelt correspondence from so many recipients.

“I’ve been truly touched by the responses we’ve received. The idea was to give some assistance to the community and hopefully the donations are doing just that,” Mr Palmer said.

In total, $117,700 was distributed to 164 charities, community organisations and worthy causes throughout the Fairfax electorate.
