Palmer Opposes Closing Parliament House Childcare Centre

Federal Member for Fairfax

Moves by the Abbott Government to close down childcare facilities at Parliament House have been labelled sexist by federal leader of the Palmer United Party and member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer.

“Women everywhere, including Parliament House, need every opportunity to be active members of the workforce and be free of discrimination,’’ Mr Palmer said.

“The imminent closure of the Parliament House childcare centre will seriously impact workers in the Press Gallery and all sections of Parliament.

“It seriously impacts female Senators and members of the House of Representatives as well as their staff,’’ he said.

“It is one thing for the Prime Minister to have just one female cabinet minister and discriminate against all other female members of his party, but it is a very serious matter when he seeks to impose his own agenda on the parliament itself.”

Mr Palmer said Mr Abbott’s attitude towards women was also reflected in his hopeless Paid Parental Leave policy which followed the government’s sexist and elitist agenda to punish and discriminate against everyday Australians.
