Western Australian Senator and Senate Leader of the Palmer United Partly, Dio Wang, has called for Australia to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
“Western Australia needs more investment and jobs and the AIIB is an idea whose time has come,’’ Senator Wang said.
“The establishment of the AIIB will result in the investment of billions of dollars and it is important that Western Australia does not miss out on a share of this funding.”
Senator Wang said the Abbott Government needed to take a lead in the establishment of the AIIB.
“The Foreign Ministers of South Korea, Japan and China agreed on Saturday for a summit meeting of their leaders to move towards the bank’s full operation in Asia.
“The Abbott Government needs to join the AIIB as soon as possible so that Australia has a seat at the table and so that Australian concerns are properly addressed.
“It has been 70 years since the end of World War II and the need to claim a better future for all people of our region is vital. Australian engagement in Asia is fundamental to that outcome,’’ Senator Wang said.
