Two exceptional young Sunshine Coast athletes have been rewarded by Member for Fairfax Clive Palmer MP, for their outstanding efforts in the sporting arena.

Elli Picken (18) and Alex Wright (17) both won their events at the recent Surf Ironman Series Under-19 Coolangatta Gold and have been recognised with a Sport Achievement Award from Mr Palmer.

The pair were comfortable winners in their respective races, which Mr Palmer says is just reward for their dedication and endless hours of training.

“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to both Elli and Alex for their great success at the Surf Ironman Series Under-19 Coolangatta Gold and I’m delighted to be able to recognise their determination with these Sport Achievement Awards,” Mr Palmer said.

“As local Fairfax electorate athletes, they are outstanding ambassadors for our community.

“Their countless hours of training, dedication and enthusiasm have paid off with a great result.

“They also serve as an inspiration for Australians of all ages by encouraging us to set goals and using those goals as the driving force to fulfil our ambitions.

“They have my congratulations and best wishes for future success. I am confident they will keep up their good work and enjoy many more proud moments in their lives.”

The Australian Government Sport Achievement Award was introduced in 2002 to recognise outstanding sporting performance, achievements and contributions by community members all over the nation.
