Qantas puts faith in Sunshine Coast: Clive Palmer

Federal Member for Fairfax

Media release

Federal leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, has congratulated Qantas for announcing the airline will start return services from the Sunshine Coast Airport to Sydney later this year.

Qantas will offer six services a week between Maroochydore and Sydney from December 21, to cater to leisure based travellers over the summer period and will commence more business-friendly services between the cities from February, 2016.

Mr Palmer said this is a fantastic result for the Sunshine Coast airport and shows Qantas’ confidence in the region.

“Qantas’ new services will provide the region with the boost it desperately needs,” Mr Palmer says.

“Enabling greater access between the Sunshine Coast and the southern states is the first step in ensuring the success of our region and all we have to offer.”

Mr Palmer said Qantas’ announcement that they will return to the Sunshine Coast for the first time in over a decade is not just a boost for the region but for the airports proposed expansion.

“This is just the first step for the Sunshine Coast airport ahead of its much-needed expansion,” Mr Palmer said.
