Leader of the Palmer United Party and member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, confirmed today that Palmer United had rejected approaches made by Senate crossbenchers from the Liberal Democratic Party and Family First.

“Both the Liberal Democratic Party and Family First supported Tony Abbott’s 2014 budget and now they are crying because the Liberals have turned on them,’’ Mr Palmer said.

“Where were David Leyonhjelm and Bob Day in 2014? They were doing the Liberal Party bidding.

“If it wasn’t for Palmer United, the 2014 budget would have passed and what sort of country would Australia have become?’’ Mr Palmer said.

Mr Palmer confirmed that a major effort was underway by Palmer United to develop election-winning policies to address the needs of all Australians.

These policies would be announced prior to next election.

“Palmer United membership is fully ready, willing and able to fight the next election regardless of any changes to Senate voting law designed to defeat us.

“The truth of the matter is that David Leyonhjelm was elected to the Senate only because of his position on the ballot paper and use of the word ‘Liberal’ to confuse matters in voters’ minds.”

Mr Palmer said Palmer United would stand a strong Senate team in New South Wales and was confident of taking Leyonhjelm’s Senate seat in a double dissolution election.
