Politicians’ Pay Rise an Insult to Queenslanders: Clive Palmer

Media release

The generous pay rises granted to Queensland politicians are an insult to the people they are meant to be serving, Federal leader of the Palmer United Party and member for Fairfax Clive Palmer says.

Mr Palmer has slammed Premier Campbell Newman, Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney and other Queensland politicians for accepting substantial pay increases while so many regular Queenslanders were struggling to make ends meet.

“What an insult to the people of Queensland,’’ Mr Palmer said.

“Campbell Newman has destroyed more Queensland jobs than any Premier in history.

“He has run Queensland down with poor economic management and brutal cuts to public sector jobs and budget spending yet there is still enough in the kitty to find massive pay rises for himself and his mates.

“In the case of Mr Newman, his salary has been topped up by around $70,000 per annum which is way beyond what many Queenslanders earn in a year, those who are lucky enough to still have jobs.

“It shows how out of touch this government really is. Queensland politicians should reject these pay rises immediately or donate them to charities that can spend them better,’’ Mr Palmer said.
