Media Release
The federal leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, has accused News Limited of concentrating excessively on money in reports about him today.
Mr Palmer said the Courier Mail and The Australian newspapers had attempted to reduce his value as an MP to the size of his bank balance and ignored his many other qualities and life experience.
“What is really important is the content of a person’s character and not the value of their wealth,” Mr Palmer said.
“This story is a typical effort from the Rupert Murdoch-owned Courier Mail and The Australian newspapers, with reporting focusing on an individual with sensationalised headlines and missing the deeper truth.
“Every Australian knows what’s really important – love for family and friends and the strength of their commitment to the country.”
Mr Palmer said the story was an example of attention grabbing by media outlets fighting declining circulation and not living in the real world.
“It’s not promotion of money that’s important but human lives and people’s welfare,” Mr Palmer said.
“The focus should not be on money but on service and love between each other and respect for the individual.”
