Forcing Australians to Apply for 40 Jobs a Month is Wrong: Palmer

Federal Member for Fairfax

Media release

Federal leader of the Palmer United Party and member for Fairfax Clive Palmer says forcing unemployed Australians to apply for 40 jobs a month is wrong.

Mr Palmer has blasted plans by the federal government to make all jobseekers work for their welfare payments, saying it was about punishing the jobless rather than addressing the real causes of Australia’s high unemployment rate.

“This policy is wrong. The overwhelming majority of Australia’s unemployed are already trying desperately to find work,’’ Mr Palmer said.

“The fact of the matter is the jobs aren’t there because of the incompetent economic management of successive federal governments,’’ he said.

Mr Palmer said the government’s tough new work for the dole measures would not pass through the Senate.

“The government is not showing any certainty or leadership for the Australian people with these measures,’’ Mr Palmer said.

“What Australia needs is a real plan for growth that will create jobs.

“The problem with the Coalition is that they are mostly professional politicians or ex staffers with no commercial or real-world experience,’’ he said.
