Member for Fairfax and federal leader of the Palmer United Party, Mr Clive Palmer MP, has applauded three local sport stars in his electorate who have recently been awarded a Sport Achievement Award in recognition of their outstanding sporting performances.

Remy Fairweather, from Coolum (swimming), Christian Butterworth, from Peregian Springs (golf) and Shara Gillow, from Nambour (road cycling) have all received the prestigious certificate from The Hon Peter Dutton, Minister for Health and Minister for Sport, and Mr Clive Palmer MP.

Ms Fairweather represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, claiming a gold medal as part of the women’s 4×200 metre freestyle relay team.

Ms Gillow was also an Australian representative at the Games while Mr Butterworth finished third in the 2014 World Junior Golf Championship in California, USA, in July.

“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Remy, Christian and Shara, three high-achieving sports people whose countless hours of training, dedication and enthusiasm have paid off with performances we can all be proud of,” Mr Palmer said.

“These three young Australians have inspired their nation and are wonderful ambassadors for their local electorate of Fairfax,” Mr Palmer said.

The Australian Government’s Sport Achievement Award was introduced in 2002 to recognise outstanding sporting performances, achievements and contributions by community members.
