Federal Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer MP, says it his constituents who will ultimately judge the success of the Fairfax Festival Weekend, but feedback so far suggests the community are declaring the festival a massive hit.
Around 40,000 locals crammed into Palmer Coolum Resort over the three days of the festival to enjoy free entry to the Palmersaurus dinosaur park, the Palmer Motorama car museum and lots of other free entertainment, including two live concerts from the world’s number one Elvis tribute act Dean Vegas, and performances from top Irish band McGuinness & Co.
Just as popular were the hourly political forums with constituents given a unique opportunity to listen to local parliamentarians, and then pose questions in an informal and inclusive environment.
“When I was moving around the resort there were smiling faces everywhere and everyone appeared to be having a great time and enjoying themselves,” Mr Palmer said.
“That was the whole idea. I wanted the community to enjoy what was on offer, come together and get to know each other. If that was the result then it was a huge success and I’m delighted.
“I particularly enjoyed the political forums and it was great to hear what people had to say. I spoke at six of those forums and the questions from constituents have given me plenty of food for thought,” Mr Palmer said.
