Closing the Gap not good enough: Clive Palmer

Federal Member for Fairfax

Media release

The federal leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, said the government’s response to Closing the Gap is disappointing and a tragedy for Indigenous Australians.

Mr Palmer said Indigenous Australians need results now, not in 15, 20 or 30 years’ time.

“Closing the Gap is just an excuse for inaction,” Mr Palmer said.

“Indigenous Australians, including babies and children are dying at twice the rate of non-Indigenous Australians from undetected, treatable and preventable diseases.

“The mortality rate of Indigenous Australians is one of the highest in the world.

“This needs to stop and something must be done now, not in 30 years’ time.

“The inequality facing Indigenous Australians is a tragedy and the government’s response should be immediate.”
