The ABC must be protected, says Clive Palmer

Federal Member for Fairfax

Federal Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer MP, has assured his constituents he will not support any proposed government changes to national broadcaster, the ABC.

Last week activists from grassroots advocacy group GetUp congregated at Sunshine Coast electoral offices and presented information on a petition to protect the ABC, which has been signed by over 232,000 people.

The basis of the petition is to keep the public broadcaster “fully funded, free of ads, free for everyone and free to remain fair and balanced”.

Mr Palmer said he and his party will stand firm as an opponent to any changes that will negatively impact the ABC.

“The Palmer United Party supports all the people who have signed this petition and actively protested against the Abbott government meddling with the ABC,” Mr Palmer said.

“We will resist any proposed cuts to ABC funding, particularly as this government are manufacturing a mythical budget crisis in an attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of the Australian public.

“The ABC is a fundamental cornerstone to free media in this country and must be protected,” he said.
