Flight instructor and former pilot Garry Beck has been announced as Clive Palmer United Australia Party’s candidate for Gaven.
Garry began working as a pilot 1986, flying in the Cooper Basin and regional South Australia. He was later employed by Ansett Australia as a pilot based initially in Sydney at the Air Ambulance before moving to The Airbus A320 in Melbourne.
When Ansett collapsed, he and his family moved to Dubai in 2001 with Emirates Airlines, flying as an A330 /340 Captain.
He also worked from Sydney for Air China, spending most time in Beijing, then from Brisbane for Air Australia.
More recently he has been working for Fiji Airways as a type rated instructor on the A330.
“After nearly 40 years of flying I wanted to do something different where I could make a difference,’’ Garry said.
“I have seen a large part of the world and experienced many different cultures. I want to impress on people that we do indeed live in one of the best places possible. With good government we can maintain our highly desirable living conditions and unique way of life.”
Garry’s priorities include stopping wasteful spending in government, supporting local businesses, boosting education, improving traffic conditions in Gaven and reducing crime rates.
He married his wife Cheryl in 1988 and they have two children aged 26 and 24 who live in Helensvale.
