No Rush for RET Changes

Federal Member for Fairfax

Media release

The federal leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax Clive Palmer said the party will not support any changes to the Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme until this matter can be considered by Australians at the next federal election.

Mr Palmer said too often politicians make promises before elections only to break them after elections.

“The then Abbott Opposition promised the Australian people prior to the last election Australia would retain the RET,” Mr Palmer said.

“Now, like many other politicians, he seeks to break one of his promises.”

“The Palmer United Party’s role in the Senate is to stay true to Australians and we will not let the government break another promise, which is why our senators will not support any change to the RET before 2016 and not until after the next election.”
