LNP abandons bush: Clive Palmer

Media release

Federal leader of the Palmer United Party Clive Palmer said today that the LNP had taken regional Queensland for granted for too long.

“The Newman government is destroying regional Queensland and the National Party no longer exists in the State,’’ Mr Palmer said.

“One of the few remaining National Party members, Warren Truss, has finally come out of the closet and revealed himself as a Liberal.

“He spends more time in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne than with the Wide Bay community who voted for him,’’ he said.

Mr Palmer, the former National Party life member and official party spokesman in Queensland, predicts a clean sweep for the Palmer United Party in regional Queensland in the upcoming federal election.

Mr Palmer said he fully expected his party to win the seats of Wide Bay, Flynn and Maranoa with others such as Leichardt, Dawson and Herbert also ripe for the taking.

“As I travel around these electorates, one thing that stands out is the voters in these areas are fed up with being taken for granted.

“I am sure a great many of them are willing to change alliances from the Nationals to the Palmer United Party in order to get the representation they deserve,’’ Mr Palmer said.

Mr Palmer said the Palmer United Party candidate for Leichardt, Bruce Gibson, was campaigning particularly strongly and had tremendous support in the community.

“We have fielded very capable candidates across regional Queensland and I personally look forward to bringing proper representation to the people of the Sunshine Coast as the candidate for Fairfax, as I know Bill Schoch does as the representative for Fisher,’’ Mr Palmer said.
