Greens Desert Pensioners

Federal Member for Fairfax

Media release

The Greens have deserted senior Australians by giving the Abbott Government the numbers it needs in the Senate to cut pensions, according to federal leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer.

“This cut by the Abbott-Greens alliance is just the first step towards making life more difficult for pensioners,’’ Mr Palmer said.

“The Greens and Tony Abbott are seeking to change pension indexation and raise the age of pension entitlement to 70 years.”

Mr Palmer said The Greens should be ashamed of themselves for deserting the elderly in their time of need.

“Restoring the pension and protecting the elderly will be high on the agenda for the Palmer United Party at the next election.

“We have to support our senior citizens, not discard them. This government has its priorities wrong.”

Mr Palmer said the Palmer United Party would regain the balance of power in the Senate at the next election and stand as the last sentry at the gate protecting the lives of all Australians.
