Clive Palmer Serves Defamation Writ on Campbell Newman

Media release

The federal leader of the Palmer United Party, Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, has commenced legal proceedings against Queensland Premier Campbell Newman for defamation.

A writ against Mr Newman was lodged in the Queensland Supreme Court and has been served on the Premier through the Crown Solicitor.

Mr Palmer said claims by Mr Newman in a recent media interview that the Palmer United Party federal leader and Queensland businessman tried to “buy” his government were totally false and damaging to his integrity.

“These comments by Mr Newman can’t be allowed to go unchallenged,” he said.

Mr Palmer said if he was awarded any damages from Mr Newman they would be donated to Mission Australia to assist the charity with its work to help sacked Queensland public servants.
