Clive Palmer Prepared to buy Gold Coast Hospital site

Media release

Palmer United Party federal leader Clive Palmer says he is prepared to buy the Gold Coast Hospital site at Southport to save it from demolition and maintain an essential community service.

Mr Palmer said the LNP government’s plan to demolish the hospital and sell the land only benefitted lobbyists and the companies they represented instead of serving the people of the Gold Coast.

“I am willing to pay land value for the hospital buildings to keep the hospital going and it would spare the state government from wasting millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money demolishing it,” he said.

“Southport needs more public hospital beds for its growing population but instead the government is making sure they have less.”

Mr Palmer said local LNP member Rob Molhoek was a disgrace for deserting the people of his electorate and their need for a public hospital in the Southport medical precinct.

“My interest and that of the Palmer United Party is in keeping hospital beds open on the Gold Coast,” he said.

“We’ve got a dismal state of affairs in health services statewide due to this LNP government which favours private hospitals.

“What we need is more doctors and nurses.”
