Budget Cuts will Never Lead to Surplus: Clive Palmer

Federal Member for Fairfax

Media release

Palmer United Party federal leader and Member for Fairfax Clive Palmer said if Treasurer Joe Hockey continues to cut the budget it will never get back to surplus.

Mr Palmer said by the Treasurer continuing to make cuts to the budget he is only ensuring the budget will never get back to surplus.

“All Joe Hockey is doing is ensuring his own and the government’s political demise,” Mr Palmer said.

“His head is stuck in the sand, he is not listening to the Australian People and he is ignoring sound economic logic.

“By continuing to cut the budget, Joe Hockey would reduce demand to very dangerous levels and could trigger a collapse of the Australian economy.”

Mr Palmer said not only is the Treasurer mindlessly following Treasury’s advice he is refusing to listen to the Australian community.

“Australia needs to stimulate the economy and growth is the only way Government revenues and demand can be sustained,” he said.

“It seems the Liberal Party is intent on going the way of former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and his failed government.

“Joe Hockey’s role as Treasurer must be questioned, as it conflicts with the Prime Minister’s undertaking to listen to the Australian people.”
